Email Deliverability
Definition
The ability of an email to reach the recipient's inbox instead of the spam folder. It depends on factors like sender reputation and content quality.
Example Use Case
A marketing agency uses tools like Mailgun to monitor and improve deliverability rates.
Deliverability is whether your email reaches the inbox at all. It is worth more attention than open rates, because a message that lands in spam has no open rate to improve.
Sending to a list that expects to hear from you is the foundation. Consent, consistent sending volume, and low complaint rates matter more than any wording trick, and mailbox providers weigh engagement patterns heavily when deciding where a message belongs. A list that has gone cold will drag down everything sent to it.
The technical side is now non-negotiable: authenticated sending with SPF, DKIM, and DMARC, plus a domain reputation that is protected by separating marketing from transactional mail. List hygiene — removing hard bounces and long-term non-openers — is maintenance, not optional cleanup.
