KPI Dashboard
Definition
A visual representation of key performance metrics to track marketing effectiveness.
Example Use Case
A marketing director uses a Google Data Studio dashboard to monitor ad campaign performance.
A KPI dashboard puts the handful of numbers that matter in one place, updated automatically, so that progress can be checked without rebuilding a report each time. Its purpose is to make the current state of performance visible at a glance and to remove the delay between an event and someone noticing it.
Design follows from audience. A dashboard for an executive answers “are we on track” with a few trend lines and targets. A dashboard for the person running campaigns needs more granularity — channel-level breakdowns, recent changes, and the ability to drill in. Mixing the two produces a screen that is cluttered for one reader and too shallow for the other.
The most common failure is metric sprawl. Twenty charts crowd out the three that inform decisions, and everyone stops looking. Choose measures tied to an objective, give each a target and a definition, and resist adding one for every question that arises.
