Organic Traffic

Definition

Website visitors who arrive through unpaid search results.

Example Use Case

A fitness blog grows organic traffic by publishing high-quality workout guides optimized for SEO.

Organic traffic is made up of visitors who found you through unpaid search results. It differs from paid traffic in an important way: you do not pay per visit, so a page that ranks continues to bring people without further spend — but you also cannot turn it on or off at will.

That makes it slow to build and valuable once established. Ranking depends on matching search intent better than the alternatives and on accumulating the signals that lead a search engine to trust a page, which usually means months rather than days. In return, the traffic does not stop when a budget line is cut.

Attribution deserves care. Organic visitors often arrive early in a journey and convert later through another channel, so last-click measurement consistently undervalues it. Segmenting organic traffic by landing page and by the queries that produced impressions shows which pages are genuinely earning attention. See SEO and on-page SEO.
